Sandra Bullock was playing her favourite role of mom with aplomb yesterday when she played with her adorable son Louis in New York.

The 46-year-old had taken the 15- month-old toddler to the park with a pal as she took time out from filming her latest movie.

The heartwarming scenes cams as it emerged that the Oscar-winning star has donated $1million to the Japanese tsunami and earthquake relief effort,
It's the fourth time she's donated $1million to the Red Cross in the States.

The organisation said in a statement: 'The American Red Cross is extremely grateful for this generous support from Sandra Bullock and her family.

'This contribution is vitally important as the Red Cross works to provide critical assistance and essential relief items in this time of urgent need for so many people in Japan.'

The 46-year-old Hollywood actress has previously given $1 million to Doctors Without Borders to aid the Haiti relief effort after the devastating earthquake there in 2010.

Sandra is temporarily away from her home in Austin, Texas, to film new movie Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close in the city.

Little Louis joined her on set last week, but yesterday was some special mommy and baby time.

She was on set last week looking very office smart if somewhat dowdy in a khaki two piece suit and heels as she's had something of a make-under for her role in the movie, including a rather nondescript new frizzy hairstyle.

A drama thriller based on the novel by Jonathan Safran Foer, the film also stars Tom Hanks, James Gandolfini and John Goodman..

It follows the heartbreaking story of a nine-year-old amateur inventor who searches New York for the lock that matches a mysterious key left by his father after he was killed in the September 11th attacks.

Directed by British movie maestro Stephen Daldry, the man behind the lens for Billy Elliot, it's Sandra's first movie since The Blind Side, for which she won the Best Actress Academy Award and comes out next year.

Sandra pressed ahead with her plan to adopt Louis, was was born in New Orleans, just weeks after her split from ex-husband Jesse James in April last year, following claims from several women that they'd had affairs with him during his marriage to Sandra.

Sandra and Jesse had started the initial adoption process four years earlier - but the actress decided to go ahead without him and become a single mother.

The child began living with them in January 2010, but they chose to keep the news private until after the Oscars in March 2010.
